How do I know Dr. Nordberg is the best choice of a surgeon to perform my procedure?

Dr. Leif Nordberg is certified in plastic and reconstructive surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). Whether you use Imagine Aesthetics for your procedure or not, make sure your surgeon is certified by ABPS. There are other certifications that sound similar, but are not. Dr. Nordberg has more than two decades of experience as a surgeon and has been recognized year after year as one of Connecticut’s top doctors. He is featured frequently in the media because of his reputation.

Every cosmetic patient’s journey begins with a free consultation. Dr. Nordberg wants to know why you are considering a procedure and what you are hoping to achieve. Understanding the motivations of his patients always comes first at Imagine Aesthetics.

Why is it called plastic surgery?

The English word “plastic” is derived from the Greek word “plastikos” which means malleable or shape-able, something that can be smoothed or shaped. The term “plastic surgery” has nothing to do with the material we commonly call “plastic”.

Is it painful?

Some procedures are more painful than others, and each patient tolerates post-operative pain or discomfort differently. Dr. Nordberg will prescribe post-operative pain medications as needed. Many nonsurgical procedures are completely painless for most people.

How long will the results last?

The results of some procedures should last for the rest of your life. Other procedures require follow-up. Long-lasting results may also be affected by a patient’s diet, exercise and use of toxins, such as tobacco.

What kind of anesthesia is used?

The type of anesthesia used depends on the procedure and the patient. Many procedures can be done with local or no anesthesia.

Do you see many men in your practice?

Women choose cosmetic surgery far more often than men, but the number of men opting for such procedures goes up every year. In the most recent survey conducted by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 8% of procedures were performed on male patients.

Some of the more common procedures are facelifts, liposuction, and breast reduction. As is true with women, men are often left with sagging skin after weight loss, and we can remove that and help you achieve the look you worked so hard to attain.

What is a tummy tuck?

During a tummy tuck, we remove fat and skin from your midsection and also tighten your abdominal muscles.

How does liposuction work?

Liposuction is an extremely popular procedure in which fat cells are removed through tiny incisions that leave virtually no scarring. It can be done almost anywhere on the body, and anyone who wants to get rid of fatty deposits is a good candidate. Often the procedure is performed on people who have already lost a lot of weight but find some areas just never tone up through diet and exercise alone.

What is BOTOX?

BOTOX Cosmetic injections soften facial wrinkles by blocking nerve impulses that cause specific muscle contractions.

Some people look like they have had plastic surgery. I don’t want to look that way. Is plastic surgery for me?

Dr. Nordberg couldn’t agree more. He takes great pride in his patients achieving a natural look. No one wants a face that looks stretched, eyes or cheeks that seem pulled too high or breasts that are obviously not original. People come to Dr. Nordberg to look better, and that means looking natural and healthy. We can show you lots of before and after photos and even let you speak with past patients.

How soon can I go back to work?

Every procedure and every person is different. With most of our non-invasive spa treatments, you will not need any downtime. Some surgical procedures require up to two weeks of taking it easy. We discuss all of this with you before performing any procedure.

How about exercise?

With breast surgery, the doctor will want you to wait at least 2-3 weeks before engaging in heavy lifting or anything strenuous. With many other procedures, you can get back to your normal routine much sooner.

Do I need to do anything special before having a procedure done?

For facial work or other skin work, we generally recommend you stay out of direct sun, and skip the tanning bed for a few weeks prior to and after any procedure.

Will insurance cover my surgery? If not, do you have payment plans?

Insurance does cover some of the procedures we offer for some of our clients. If what you need is the result of a disease such as breast cancer or an accident that has left your hand less than fully functional, then your procedure may be covered. If your procedure is not medically necessary but is primarily cosmetic, then it is unlikely to be covered by insurance.

Imagine Aesthetics offers payment options as a convenience to our clients.

Where will the procedure be performed?

Most nonsurgical procedures are performed in the office and surgical procedures in our surgery center next door. Both facilities are beautifully designed, new, and fitted with safety equipment and excellent staff.

I had acne as a child, and now it looks like my son is beginning to get it pretty bad. Is there anything we can do?

Yes. Bring your son in as soon as you can for a consultation.

How do I know what type of breast implant is best for me?

Imagine Aesthetics offers both silicone and saline implants, and both have advantages. Most of our clients think silicone implants look and feel the most natural, but saline can be a good choice for some women. Dr. Nordberg will discuss all of your options with you and help you make the right choice for you.

Imagine is now offering the Natrelle silicone gel implant, which we think is an improvement over previous silicone products. These maintain their shape very well over time, which is important in presenting a natural look and feel.

Will there be scarring from my procedure?

Some procedures do leave scars, but good surgeons, such as Dr. Nordberg, are skilled at minimizing or hiding scars. With most procedures, no one will ever see a scar. We will go over this with you in detail prior to your procedure so that you know exactly what to expect beforehand.
